you will definately need the dwarf
the pteroisgenus of lionfish (the ‘regular’ kind) get as big as a 28 cube
even then i would think baout moving him up when he get’s fully grown
i agree with not feeding them goldfish but the whole skull digestion thing is rediculous, they die of fatty liver disease and other diseases…
the maroon clown would be ok with a dawrf but not in a 28 gallon tank…

If you buy a dwarf lion fish yes 5-6 inches in length, minimum tank size: 30 gallons but if you don’t over decorate the tank and keep it alone then it will be ok, if you want a russels lion or a volitan lion the NO they get 15 inches and should have 75+ as a minimum tank. and good tip to remember, if their spins strike your finger, soak it in as hot of water as you can stand for 15 minutes twice an hour til the stinging stops…and DO NOT FEED HIM GOLDFISH FEEDERS, they cannot digest the skulls and will in time kill him….Try and train it to eat prepaired foods, silversides and if this is non successful feed him acclimated saltwater guppies and gut loaded ghost shrimp.

You can definately get a dwark lionfish. Make sure you get one that is already eating . Speak with the petstore person to watch him eat. Some of them will “wean” them onto a certain type of food that you want to feed them, be it live or frozen. Be careful though if you plan on keeping smaller fish in the same tank, he may make a snack of them. Good Luck
