Is it Normal for my Checkered Barb fish to go into my filter?

biocube
csaxe21 asked:

I have had a 14 gallon biocube for a bit over 4 months now. Now with 2 checkered barbs, one gourami, one angel, one guppy, one platty, one tetra, one rainbow shark, and one botia kubotai… Between the two barbs one is a bit larger and has more vibrant colors. It seems to chase the smaller one around very often, and sometimes the smaller one stays behind the heater for a little while. Since you may now the filter is built into the biocube behind the fish area, seperated into 3 parts. I have had the two barbs form a week after I got my tank, and so far the smaller one has been in there 3-4 times. my water level is correct, and if I lower it the filter makes sound and bubbles. Does anyone have any ideas, or sujjestions, because I don’t think they sell a part to cover it… Thanks

get 3 more females barbs… It has to be females.. One that you have now is probably a male…

I have 5 myself. 1 male, 4 female.. The male do chase the females but he has 4 to keep him busy and one fish isn’t stressed… They do better in groups.

You might want to remove the angel to a bigger tank when it gets bigger. When you get a bigger tank, move out the botia and rainbow shark too.. They prefer a big tank and companions of the same species.. I’d say a 55G tank would be good.

Smaller fish will be bullied by bigger ones. They find hiding places where they’re safe.
You can’t stop this unless you take one of them back to the pet store.

    Also:
    Your tank is over full.
Return the angel fish (they get too big for that tank), and the rainbow shark (they get too aggressive for the rest of the fish in the tank).

The rest of your fish are schooling fish. Meaning, they need others of their own kind (at least 3 of each) to be healthy and happy.
Consider returning fish and adding others to make the proper schools of fish.

The botia kubotai will outgrow that tank AND needs at least 3 friends. Return him.

GET A BIGGER TANK OR RETURN SOME OF THE FISH!

Please do research on all of the fish you want BEFORE you buy them.
